When a young person, under the age of eighteen, is charged with a crime, the case is handled in the Juvenile division of the State Attorney’s office. The office files petitions against minors who commit delinquent acts. Delinquent acts are acts that would constitute crimes if they had been committed by adults. Juvenile cases are heard in the Circuit Court sitting as Juvenile Court.
