Schoolfield Sentenced to 4 1/2 Years for Handgun & Reckless Endangerment

On April 5, 2019, Cintelle Schoolfield, age 39, of Pocomoke City, Maryland, was sentenced to 3 years of incarceration in the Division of Correction for reckless endangerment, with 18 months’ incarceration to be served consecutively for handgun on person. Schoolfield was found guilty of these offenses on March 4, 2019 by the Honorable Beau H. Oglesby of the Worcester County Circuit Court.

The charges stem from an incident witnessed by Sgt. Brown of the Pocomoke City Police Department while he was off-duty on September 19, 2018. On that date, Sgt. Brown observed Cintelle Schoolfield in the area of the Bonneville Apartments arguing with another male subject about money, and saw that he had a handgun tucked into his waistband. During the argument, the male subject pointed out to Schoolfield that Brown was a police officer, at which point Schoolfield stated "I don’t care, I’ll shoot him [Sgt. Brown] too." When Sgt. Brown briefly left the area to retrieve his weapon, he heard a gunshot fired in the immediate vicinity and observed Schoolfield fleeing on foot. Pocomoke City Police responded to the scene and gave chase but were unsuccessful in apprehending Schoolfield at that time.

Worcester County State’s Attorney Kris Heiser thanked Pocomoke City Police Department and Sgt. Brown for his outstanding efforts while off-duty, and praised Assistant State’s Attorney Jared Monteiro who prosecuted the case.
